Thursday 25th March
A great evening on the patch today with year ticks coming at me from all sides!
A single Willow Warbler feeding along the main trail gave very close views and was soon followed by 3 Sandwich Terns heading west off the sea front and then a Swallow heading south! A stroll up towards the fields north of White Bridge produced a Peregrine feeding on a kill, 20+ Linnet and then an excellent sighting as I watched the 3 Garganey and the Bittern in the same scope view! The Whimbrel and 5 Curlew were feeding in the flooded fields, 2 Coot, 3 Little Egret and 2 calling Tawny Owls ended a great evening's birding. On a more depressing note, I also found a decapitated Mute Swan at the top end of the river - recorded its ring numbers so shall find out its origin......
Shame there's no photo of the Mute Swan - that might have rivalled my peppershrike photo?
