Patch Tick

A visit to the Otter this evening produced a small "flock" of mixed waders- quite an exciting event on the Otter! These consisted of:
10 Ringed Plover
4 Dunlin

and 2 moulting adult Sanderling!

Sanderling is far from a common bird here and this takes me to a total of 23 wader species on the Otter and adjacent scrapes - not bad for such a wader free zone most of the time!
I must admit I thought it more likely I'd see a Sanderling in a winter cold snap rather than mid August, but I guess wader passage is in full swing now.......
