My old mate Sam came to stay for the weekend and it was really great to catch up with him after having not seen him for at least 18 months - That man has just done far too much travelling and seen too many great birds - Not jealous at all! We chatted all weekend about birding, guiding, twitching, the "downturn" oh and of course "The Troubles!" We even managed to slip out and do some birding - A visit to Ide resulted in us dipping Hawfinch, but a return visit to Clennon Valley Ponds produced good views of the Penduline Tit, despite it being very tricky to digiscope. Then a visit to Broadsands produced some good views of Cirl Buntings, a group of Eider, a Common Scoter and a Black-necked Grebe. Plus Fulmar, Gannet and 30+ Great Crested Grebes. Oh and we also managed a lovely bit of Steamed Jam Sponge and Custard! Lovely.
