Since living in Budleigh Salterton, the Mrs and I have always ventured out on New Year's Day attempting to see/hear as many different species as we can just within the local area. This morning we were somewhat lacking professionalism with a later start than previous years! However, I think we didn't do too bad considering we made 84 species venturing no further than Bowling Green Marsh and not starting until gone 10am! Highlights included at least 3 Brambling (including a male), Long-tailed Duck and 10+ RT Divers. Rather embarrasing omisions, mostly due to lack of daylight included Shag(!), Jay, Nuthatch, Treecreeper and GC Grebe. All in all, a good day and a change to have a mostly dry day!
