Birding with Sam

Sunday 30th December 2012
Had an enjoyable day with my old mate Sam Woods who is staying with us for a couple of days. Good chats about the "old days" and the crazy world we live in today! The day started with dipping a 1st Year Iceland Gull off Exmouth Beach, but things got better as Sam was keen to see some Cirl Buntings with his last sighting having been when visiting us in 2009 - We managed to find 3 birds today. Then a return visit to Exmouth Beach produced the Iceland Gull and we went on to dip some Waxwings at Exeter Services. The grand finale was to be had on the East Devon Heaths where the highlight was a couple of Woodcock. Tried again for last night's obliging Tawny Owl, but no joy tonight.
